"A lonely Pokemon, it conceals its terrifying appearance beneath an old rag so it can get closer to people and other Pokemon"-Mimikyu's Pokedex Entry.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

"Freaky."
"Ugly."
"Weird."
"Filthy creature."
"Wanna-be Pikachu."

Mimikyu turned its body, glaring harshly at the human across the street who made that last comment.

How dare they call it a "wanna-be"?!

Was it that hard for people to understand that it didn't want to replace Pikachu....but be loved like Pikachu?

Mimikyu thought it did a good job on its costume...so why would they call it those awful things?

Even though the insults didn't make it cry anymore, for it was use to hearing them everyday, they still hurt it nonetheless.

But now rumors were flying that the Disguise Pokemon killed someone who saw its true form. Apparently, they died from shock, when in reality they just contracted an illness doctors could not identify fast enough.

It was a curse Mimikyu could never get rid of.

It never wanted to hurt anyone.

All it wanted....was to be loved.

Was that too much to ask for?

Feeling a single raindrop, Mimikyu looked to the sky to see that it was starting to downpour. The weather fit well with its mood: gloomy and dark. With a sigh, it slipped into a nearby alleyway, hoping the rafters would provide good shelter from the rain. It hated getting its disguise wet.

Looking around, the Disguise Pokemon found a large cardboard box. Its eyes widened in happiness as it climbed inside of the box and laid down, curling up.

For once Mimikyu had a nice, dry place to sleep tonight.

Though not for long.

"Ey! Pssst! Wake up freakshow!"

Opening one eye, Mimikyu looked up to see that it was an Alolan Rattata. "O-Oh! I-I'm sorry," it apologized meekly, "I-I didn't kn-know this box w-was--?!"

Suddenly, the box had fallen onto its side, and Mimikyu came tumbling out of it, landing in a puddle.

"Well, well, well..what have we here?"

With a gasp, Mimikyu sat up and its eyes widened in shock when it saw the Alolan Raticate standing before it. Hearing snickers, it turned to see several other Rattata had dumped the box over and now stood on top of it.

"I-I-I don't m-mean any h-harm.." Mimikyu stuttered.

"Any Poke' that intrudes on our turf says that," the Raticate huffed. "Show 'em what we do to trespassers, boys." With a snap of his fingers, his goons lunged at Mimikyu digging their claws and fangs into its costume, tearing at it.

Mimikyu cried in pain, begging and pleading for them to stop.

Suddenly, there was a bright flash and the Rattata and Raticate were zapped by a bolt of electricity, knocking them out cold. Opening its eyes, Mimikyu used its shadowy hands to pick off the Rattata still on it before sitting up.

"That's what you get for picking on that poor Pokemon."

Mimikyu blinked in surprise, seeing a young human with [h/c] hair and [e/c] eyes frowning deeply. Beside them was an Alolan Raichu who copied their expression.

~Your POV~

You were beyond angry that those pests would try to mess with the Mimikyu. "Thank Arceus I got here in ti--" But when you looked down at Mimikyu, your frown disappeared, replaced by an expression of sadness and sympathy. Seeing the rips and holes left in its disguise made your heart twist. "Oh..what an awful thing to do. Well I promise those guys won't mess with you anymore."

"Mimi...kyu.." It turned away, though it was surprised when it felt a tap on its shoulder. Looking back, its eyes widened to see the Raichu was giving it a...smile?

But why? Wasn't he afraid?

"I think Rai wants to be friends with you," you said, patting your Electric-type on the head before looking down at Mimikyu. "In fact..I wanna be friends with you, too. Mimikyu..do you wanna join my team?" You offered, smiling sweetly as you took out a Pokeball and showed it to the Fairy/Ghost-type.

Mimikyu's eyes widened further in disbelief. "M-Mimikyu?"

You nodded. "No Pokemon deserves to be alone, no matter its appearance. I think your disguise is adorable and I wish people realized that. But the truth is....I love you for who you are, and I always will." Tapping the Pokeball gently against the "forehead" of Mimikyu's disguise, it went inside the device and didn't resist capture.

When the Pokeball clicked you picked it up, letting out the Disguise Pokemon. Almost immediately, it jumped into your arms, clinging onto you as tears-grateful, happy, and joyful tears- fell from its eyes. But you were expecting that to happen, and so you returned the embrace. Raichu joined in as well, happy to make a new friend.

"I promise, Mimikyu," you vowed, "I'll always love you for who you are."
........................

"So you finally found one, huh?" Sun said, smiling a bit as he watched your Mimikyu play with Raichu. It's been a month or two since you caught it, and you've formed a deep bond with the Disguise Pokemon. It did great in battles, too.

"Yep." You nodded. "And I couldn't be happier. I just hate seeing a Pokemon out in the cold rain. Overnight its costume seemed to have magically fixed itself."

Sun nodded. "Yeah. My Pokedex says that Mimikyu work through the night to repair their costume."

"But...I'm wondering what's under that.." You muttered, glancing back at Mimikyu.

"We all do but....that's not a good idea."

You looked back at Sun, tilting your head in confusion. "What? Why not?"

"I...I don't know if you know this," he began, "but once, a scholar saw what was underneath a Mimikyu's disguise a-and he.... died."

"Died?!" You repeated, eyes wide.

"It's true. Some say he was overwhelmed by terror and died from the shock, others say that he contracted a mysterious illness that not even the best doctor in Alola could identify."

"...mikyu?"

Both you and Sun turned your heads to see that Mimikyu had heard the entire thing. Now it was looked up at you with sad eyes.

Your eyes twitched slightly as you felt anger boiling up inside of you. Finally, you stood up. "It was nice having you over, Sun...but I think you should leave."

The boy looked at you with wide eyes. "[Y/n], you might not believe me, but I'm telling the truth!" He cried, standing up. "You ever notice how many trainers don't have a Mimikyu? They don't wanna-"

"Listen," you interrupted. "I don't know what you're trying to say..but I'm not getting rid of Mimikyu. So what if it can somehow curse people?"

"I-I'm not telling you to get rid of it! I-I'm just warning you so that you don't fall victim to-"

"Look, Mimikyu doesn't need to hear that. It's already in enough pain...it doesn't need your little "ghost stories" to add onto it."

"It's not a....." Sun began, though he stopped and sighed. "Alright...I shouldn't have mentioned this to you in front of Mimikyu. I'm sorry." He walked over to the door, opening it. But before he stepped outside, he looked back at you over his shoulder. "[Y/n]....all I'm saying is...be careful what you do..."

"I'll keep that in mind," you sighed, "but I think we'll be fine. See you later."

"See ya."

And with that, he left your house, shutting the door behind him.

"Mimi...kyu?" The Disguise Pokemon asked. You looked down, your hardened gaze softening as you knelt down and scooped it up into your arms.

"No buddy, I don't believe anything he said. Besides...even if it was true..I said I'd always love you no matter what, right?"

"...mikyu."

You giggled softly. "Exactly."
......

It's been a few days since your talk with Sun. You haven't talked to him at all since, because you were still angry with what he said about Mimikyu.

'That story was ridiculous. He was probably just exaggerating...which is still just as cruel. Am I the only one who actually shows sympathy for the poor thing?!'

Looking over, you saw Mimikyu asleep on its side.

You were now really curious as to what is hiding underneath that disguise. It could be many things.

You just wanted to know exactly what.

A little peek couldn't hurt, right?

While it was still asleep, you slowly crept over to Mimikyu. You gently took the corner of its costume...and flipped it up to see.

And you instantly regretted it.

Immediately a strange, dark cloud emitted from Mimikyu's true form, blinding you. "Ack! W-What is this stuff?!" You coughed, falling onto your back. Then you started to feel dizzy and unusually tired. "Man...I'm....getting sleepy...."

The world seemed to be fading in and out. You could see a blurry image of Mimikyu waking up, its eyes wide in alarm, but that was all you saw before everything faded to black.
.....................

"Ugh....where am...I...?"

Opening your eyes, the world slowly became clear to you again. As you sat up you realized that you were in your bedroom. You glanced around to see some flowers and a "Get Well Soon" card on the table next to you.

"Oh! Good thing you're awake."

You turned your head to see Sun sitting in a chair, smiling at you. "And there's even better news. The illness isn't fatal, but you'll just be feeling the symptoms for several weeks." His smile faded as he mentioned the illness. "....you...you really did it, didn't you?"

You stared at him, trying to remember what happened. When you did, your eyes widened. "I...I remember...but how did you..?"

"I was going to come over since I felt kinda bad for not talking to you in a few days," he explained, "but then Mimikyu came running out of your house crying..a-and that's when I saw you on the floor out cold. [Y/n]...I-I was so worried...."

"Sorry. I just got curious." You smiled weakly, before you began to cough. "W-Where is Mimikyu, by the way?"

"In here." Sun held up one of your Pokeballs. "It refused to come out for several hours."

"Can I...?"

Sun nodded, handing you your Pokeball. "Come on Mimikyu, I'm awake now." You said, but the Pokeball didn't open at all. "....please? I wanna talk to you. I'm not mad at you."

After a few moments, the device opened and Mimikyu appeared in your lap. You felt your heart melt after seeing trails of tears staining its costume, and it seemed like more were on the way.

"..k-kyu..?" It shocked you that it couldn't even utter a single bit of its name without sounding utterly heartbroken.

"No, no honey," you hushed, wiping away one of its tears. "I'll be fine. It's my fault, my curiosity, that lead to this. You didn't do anything wrong."

"Mimi..kyu?"

"Do you remember what I say to you everyday?" You inquired, tilting your head slightly. Mimikyu thought about it for a few moments, before nodding.

You smiled. "That's right." You gently kissed the top of its "head", causing it to blush like crazy, before bringing it in for a hug. "I still love you, no matter what people say."

Mimikyu nodded in understanding, hugging your neck with its arms.

"I love you, Mimikyu...forever and always."

So, what are some things you lovelies are thankful for?

For me, it's many, many things, one of them being that I'm very thankful for the deviantART community and my watchers for giving me kind words and encouragement in my four years of writing stories. So, once again, thank you all

But I believe us Pokemon fans should be thankful for not only Sun and Moon, but also the sweet, little cinnamon roll we all like to call Mimikyu.Mimikyu Pokemon Mimikyu Disguise Busted Icon Mimikyu Icon Pokemon Mimikyu Shadow Claw Icon Pokemon Mimikyu With Hearts Icon #778 Mimikyu Mimikyu :PI:
Tbh I don't give two hoots what his Pokedex entries say. Once I do get Moon, he, for sure, will be on my team, and he'll be the very best like no one ever was!

This story does have a happy ending, but it is sure a boatload of feels. Sorry about that Q.Q

But I hope you enjoy yet another glorious Pokemon story~!
