"So [y/n]...ready to have a mad time?!?"

"Heh..you have gone completely bonkers, haven't you?" You smirked, toying with the glowing red knife in your hand.

It was the same knife that you used to slay all of Monster-kind over many timelines. Needless to say, you enjoyed hearing their screams over and over, and found new, "innovative" ways to torture them to death. The number of times you reset the world were too many to count, not that you were counting to begin with anyways.

Though every time you did, you could see Sans descending further and further into despair. It was clear that your actions were taking a toll on his mentality.

But after some time, you decided to take a break and so you haven't reset in a good while. When you returned, however, you were shocked to see that Sans resorted to, of all things, doing your job for you....killing everyone, even his own brother. When neither FIGHTing nor MERCY would work, he decided that to kill you once and for all, he would have to rise up to your "level".

Now you could see that he was at LV 18, though you were at 20.

"Heh..heh..this is your fault to begin with after all, kid," Sans growled, "I should'a known you were trouble from the day you walked out of the Ruins."

You sighed. "Welp, you can't know everybody, Chuckles. You know...I almost felt guilty for killing your dear brother Papyrus...he was so innocent and kind-"

"AND YOU TOOK ADVANTAGE OF ALL THAT!!!"

You jumped in the air, dodging the bones that burst out from the ground underneath you. Landing on one foot, you looked up at Sans. "Here's some food for thought: What do you think will happen if you continue down this path?"

Sans blinked, staring at you in confusion.

"If anything..." You stood up, brushing the dirt from your pants before looking at him.

"...you're no better than me."

The skeleton's eyes burned furiously at your statement.

"I mean..just look at you! Covered in the dust and blood of everyone you cared for. You even put your hood up to keep it out of your face! But I will say....this change is interesting. I like seeing you become more proactive for once."

"Thanks," Sans replied, his grin widening as Gaster Blasters appeared on both sides of him. Their left eye sockets were red and purple, much like Sans'. "The more pain I can inflict on you, the merrier~"

Both Gaster Blasters fired their beams, combining to form a single beam that shot straight towards you. At the last moment you jumped out of the way, landing on one of the Blasters. The other one turned to you and growled, firing another white beam, but you dodged it again, causing it to strike and turn the Blaster to dust. You landed and slashed the skull-like weapon with your knife, destroying it with one hit.

"Still got it," you chuckled. Sans stared at you in shock. With every reset, you were getting quicker and tougher to kill.

"You know, brother...she has a point." Papyrus' ghost appeared beside Sans.

"No!" The older brother turned his head sharply, glaring at the phantom. He gritted his teeth in fury. "She is nothing but a liar and a killer and a-!"

"And you aren't, Sans?"

Sans paused, staring at his dead brother. He grin faltered. "B...But Paps..I only wanted-"

"To spare me from the human..I know..." The younger skeleton smiled sadly. "I only let you do that because I thought you'd be happy.....but......instead it....it only destroyed you, inside and out."

You looked on, confused as Sans was talking to the air.

'Maybe...I broke him to the point where he's talking to himself. Wow...'

"That's not true Papyrus!!" He cried. "I'm happy! So, so happy! Happy that I'm strong enough to avenge all of you.....I.....I really....am...happy....so happy...that I'm finally....gonna do something about it...."

Your eyes widened in surprise. He was talking to Papyrus?

"Avenge the ones you murdered?" Papyrus questioned, frowning. "That's very redundant of you, brother. Considering how if you do kill her......you'll be all alone."

"Or...or she'll reset," Sans muttered. "But wait...h-her reset button's gotta be worn out sometime, r-right?!" He turned back to you, giving you a wide grin. But despite that, you saw that tears were beginning to form in his eyes.

You felt your stomach do a flip when you remembered:

The last time you died, you saw that the CONTINUE option was cracked to the point where you couldn't make out the letters anymore. On the other hand, your fingers never not once graced the TRUE RESET option.
Now that you thought about it....you were becoming bored of the same old genocidal run.

And maybe, just maybe, you harbored some pity for putting Sans through all of that torment.

"Well..you're not wrong," you admitted, sighing as you put your knife back in your boot, "Sans...I think we could come to a compromise."

The skeleton blinked in confusion, wondering if you meant it or he was just hearing things.

You smiled. "I'll completely reset everything to as it was before and try a....different path. As much as I had fun torturing you all...it seems that you've, truly, become no better than me. I don't see this vicious cycle ending anytime soon...so how about it?"

"B-But after all I've done..." He muttered, staring down at his hands. "....after I-I killed everyone just to become strong enough to beat you......y-you won't fight?" He asked you calmly, glaring at you.

"After it came to that point...I had a feeling I've gone too far." You shrugged. "But maybe we could have even....been friends. So again, Sans, I'm willing to start anew." The menu appeared in front of you and you rested your fingertips against the MERCY option.

"And I promise....no tricks up my sleeve."

For a while, Sans said nothing. Not even his brother knew what to say exactly.

Then, after what seemed like an eternity, the skeleton collapsed to his knees, putting his hands over his eye sockets. Your eyes widened in surprise, though you weren't prepared for the loud, anguished cry that he let out. It sounded like a mix of maniacal laughter and heartbroken sobs.

"WE COULD NEVER BE FRIENDS!!!!!"

Around him, bones began to appear in the air before, all at once, they flew in your direction. Swiftly grabbing your knife, you sliced through them, only letting the blue ones phase through you. You narrowly dodged the beams of the numerous Gaster Blasters he had summoned as well.

Suddenly, a bone shot out of the ground in front of you, impaling you in the stomach. You gasped in pain, your eyes widening as the knife slipped from your hand. With two hands, you grabbed the bone and tried to push yourself away from it.....only to see it become outlined in blue magic.

Looking up, you saw Sans standing, his hand outstretched. With a grin he pushed his hand out, causing the bone to slowly extend. You screamed out as the bone went through your spine and out your back. You could see your HP rapidly decreasing with every inch the bone extended.

"Heh...that's what I wanna hear~" Sans chuckled slowly walking towards you. "Not so fun being on the other side, ain't it?" He rested his bony fingers on the large bone, which had your blood streaming down it. Bringing his bloodied fingers to his mouth, you watched in disgust as he smirked and licked the crimson substance, humming with delight.

"You really think, after all I went through to get here, that MERCY was gonna be an option?" He asked you, before chuckling. "No, no, no. Not anymore. There's no "mercy". No "judgement". Not even "fighting". Nope. Just good ol' fashion slaughter! It's all you're ever good at, kiddo."

You glared at him, opening your mouth to say something back, but instead you began to cough out blood. Drops of it began to dot Sans' face and hood, though he paid no mind to that.

"Maybe...I am no better than you if I went out of my way to murder even my own brother...but I did what I had to do because I felt like you deserved an "equal". Wouldn't you agree?"

"............"

"Heh, heh, heh...that's what I thought," he smirked, letting the bone retract back into the ground.

You landed on your feet, stumbling a bit as you looked down at the gaping hole in your stomach. Blood trickled down your chin and into the snow, turning it red. Looking up, you weren't braced for the swift punch Sans delivered to your face, knocking you to the ground.

Through blurred vision, you could see the insane skeleton looming over you. He snapped his fingers, and you instantly felt immense pain shoot through your arms and legs. You let out a strangled cry. You couldn't move any limb at all.

"Why not relax for a lil' while?" He shrugged. "Until I return....you dirty killer." And with that, he turned and walked away, disappearing into the forest.

Sighing, you turned your head to see the menu beside you.

Your HP was now at 0.1.

He could have killed you right now, but he didn't. He would save you that one decimal because he wasn't quite done with you yet.

He was going to make you suffer, just as you had made him and everyone else suffer.

"Hah..wow...he really is no better...than me..."
