A Gift of Thanks|Diancie x Trainer!Reader

You walked into the cave, looking around in awe as you saw all sorts of colorful gems and crystals embedded in the walls. The light from your flashlight reflected off of them, making them twinkle and shimmer like stars.

The sight made you stop and stare for a while, though you quickly remembered why you were here:

Because you heard rumors of there being a Mythical Pokemon that lives somewhere deep in this particular cavern. Nobody would tell you what the name of the Pokemon was, but they said that "wherever you see many Carbink on guard, she'll surely be there".

So yep, looks like today you're gonna play detective. Carbink were common in caves like these, so you had a good feeling you were going to find that Pokemon.

But even if it wasn't in this cave, you hoped you would at least find something like a Mega Stone, Moon Stone, or even a Fire Stone if you're lucky.

"At least I'm not being swarmed by any Zubats....yet." You sighed as you continued through the cavern.

Only to be almost smacked by a Zubat.

"Ack! Great..." You muttered, swatting the flying Pokemon away before getting out your Repel spray. "You just HAD to jinx it [y/n]--"

Suddenly, you heard a high-pitched cry, as if someone was calling out for help. Your eyes went wide and you began to pick up your pace, dropping the spray in the process. You reached a wide area inside the cave, where you saw a Mega Sableye terrorizing a group of Carbink, who seemed to be protecting something given the ring they formed around it.

You could see the Carbink firing energy beams from the stones on their heads at the Mega Sableye, though it merely deflected them with its giant, over-sized ruby gem. Some of them hit the ceiling of the cave, causing rocks to fall, and even the Carbink themselves. Even though you knew their rock-hard bodies were strong, it seemed like they wouldn't be able to take any more hits.

"HEY!" You barked out angrily.

Swinging its gem around, the Mega Sableye glanced over its shoulder to see you, before turning around and snickering.

Surprised, the Carbink ceased their attacks to see what you were going to do.

"You mess with Carbink, you mess with Topaz!" You tossed out a Pokeball and it landed on the ground, opening up to reveal your Shiny Carbink, who you (affectionately) named Topaz.

"Topaz, use Detect!"

The Shiny Carbink's eye twinkled as it glared at the Ghost-type. The Mega Sableye lunged towards her, though she dodge the attack at the last moment.

"Now use Ice Beam!"

"Car!" Topaz turned and emitted an icy beam from her gem, but the Ghost-type pivoted on its foot and deflected the attack with its shield. You gasped as it struck one of the Carbink behind her, freezing it solid.

You gritted your teeth, clenching your fists in anger. Boy..that little sucker was gonna pay.

"Topaz. Double Team."

Nodding, Topaz began to glow, creating a ring of illusionary copies around Mega Sableye, making it confused. It growled angrily, throwing rocks and swinging its gem at the copies, growing more and more frustrated as they vanished one by one.

You smirked. "Let's try that Ice Beam one more time."

Topaz appeared behind Mega Sableye, but before it could react, she fired an ice beam, freezing the purple Pokemon solid.

"Nice one! Now Double-Edge!"

"Carrrrrbink!!" Topaz cried, slamming into the frozen Mega Sableye with full-force, shattering the ice and knocking it unconscious. 

"Great job!" You walked up to congratulate your Shiny Carbink, patting her on the head. Then you looked down as Sableye reverted to its normal form, lying on the ground with its eyes becoming swirls. That's when you saw a glistening stone in its hand.

"Ah...a Sablenite." You crouched down and picked up the Mega Stone, putting it in your pocket before you took out an empty Pokeball and captured the dazed Sableye. "You'll make a fine edition to the team."

As you stood up and brushed the dust off your [pants/shorts/skirt], you looked up in surprise to see Topaz floating over to the other Carbink. You then noticed them trying to break the one that she accidentally froze free.
"Let me take care of that for you guys," you giggled, getting out your Freeze Heal. Pouring the blue liquid onto the frozen Carbink, you watched as the ice slowly melted away and the Rock/Fairy type became free. It let out a happy cry in thanks.

"You're welcome." You smiled.  The group of Carbink looked at you and Topaz, before they moved out of the way, allowing you to see what they were guarding.

Your eyes widened in amazement as you saw a beautiful Pokemon whose head was adorned with light pink crystals. She looked as though she was wearing a dress, with her white shirt. You also noticed that the bottom of her was similar to the lower half of a Carbink, making you wonder if this Pokemon is related to them in terms of evolution.

"Diancie: The Jewel Pokemon." Your Pokedex chimed as you held it up to identify the Pokemon. "A sudden transformation of Carbink, its pink, glimmering body is said to be the loveliest sight in the whole world."

"So...do you evolve from Carbink?" You asked, confused. Diancie shook her head.

"No? Huh..interesting...but are you the Mythical Pokemon everybody in Kalos speaks of?"

Dianced nodded, a smile gracing her face as she floated over to you, parting the group of Carbink that were protecting her. "Thank you, young trainer, for defending me and my friends against that naughty Sableye."

"Not a problem," you replied, "but don't worry. I caught him and I'll be sure to teach him better manners."

"Will you catch me, too? Now that you have finally found me?"

Her question caught you off guard, and you saw her smile start to disappear. Many more Carbink appeared out of the darkness, surrounding you, Topaz, and Diancie.

Now...you wondered why you've been in search of this particular Pokemon for months.

Was it to capture her?

You shook your head. "No."

"No?" Diancie repeated, her eyes widening. "But..why not? You went through all this trouble to find me, defend me, and now...you don't want to capture me?" She frowned, confused.

"These Carbink have been defending you before I even got here," you pointed out, looking at the ring of Jewel Pokemon surrounding you. "It seems like they really care about you and....the point is you're needed here. They need you. I'm just a trainer tryna fill up their Pokedex. Sure, I like to meet every Pokemon in Kalos, but not just to capture them."

"I...." Diancie tried to think of a way to protest, but her mind was blank. "....I see. I just thought that whenever trainers see a rare Pokemon, they'd capture it without any second thought."

"Then they're just jerks who like to show off their Pokemon, treating them as trophies and tools. As for me...I'd rather observe them in their natural environment and leave it at that, unless they are willing to let me catch them."

"I've never met a trainer like you before..." She mused.

"Don't worry, there are more like me out there." You smiled, before glancing at your watch. "Oh..It's getting late. I have to be getting home before-"

"W-Wait!!"

You stopped and glanced back at Diancie.

"Before you go, I-I still want to express my thanks...and I know how." She smiled, picking up what looked like another Mega Stone, before it began to glow along with her body. You, Topaz, and the other Carbink watched in awe as she Mega Evolved......into something more beautiful than anything you've ever seen in your life.

"Diancie..you're...wowie..." You breathed. Mega Diancie giggled as she twirled around. She then floated over towards you, taking your hands into hers.

"That Sableye was after my Mega Stone," she explained, "a stone I treasure more than any other kind of mineral in in the world. So, again, thank you for helping me protect something so dear to me."

"Anytime."

Mega Diancie smiled, transforming back into her normal form, letting go of your hands. "If any other trainer asks if you have seen me, do not mention me by name...just say wherever they see many Carbink on guard, I'll surely be there."

You nodded, remembering the words of several trainers you've met in the past.

"I'll keep that in mind, farewell Diancie."

"Goodbye!" She waved. 

You smiled and waved back as you and Topaz started to head out of the cavern. With a sigh, you put your hands into your pockets, feeling the Sablenite in one....but in the other...

"Huh? That's weird, I don't remember picking up anything else..." You said aloud, digging into your pocket and pulling out a pink diamond. "Interesting.."

"Carbink?"

As you turned the diamond, it began to sparkle and glisten from the ray of the setting sun.

Almost like Diancie, the Mythical Pokemon whose name you may not speak.

But also never forget.
