Gentle Giant|Volcarona x Reader

Volcarona was gracefully flying through the air. The snowstorm didn't bother it much, considering it was a Fire-type and could melt anything frozen with just a flap of its large, orange wings.

Suddenly, it heard a cry for help. It sounded like a human's cry, instead of a Pokemon's. Volcarona usually stayed away from humans, considering that it was often feared for its large and intimidating appearance.
But the Sun Pokemon refused to abandon someone in need. Turning around, it flew towards the source of the cry, and on the ground, saw a young [h/c] trainer being chased by a giant Avalugg. 

'I have to save them!' Volcarona thought as it dove down towards the human's purser.
....

"Oh Arceus SAVE ME!!" You cried as you ran through the snowstorm, hugging the egg you had in your arms. You picked up the pace as an angry Avalugg roared behind you. Unfortunately, the snow was fairly deep so you had to take big steps.

And it didn't help that you couldn't see a damn thing.

What did you even do to anger this Avalugg to begin with?

Well..it didn't seem to matter now, considering you were just moments from being frozen or crushed by the walking aircraft carrier.

Suddenly, the snow below your feet began to melt away. "Huh..?" You stopped and looked over your shoulder, seeing that the Avalugg was no longer chasing you, but instead was looking up at something.
You turned your head back and gasped to see a Volcarona flying in front of you.

You've heard stories of the Sun Pokemon, but have never seen it in the flesh until now. 

For a moment, you completely forgot about the Avalugg behind you until you heard a deafening roar. "Y-Y-Yikes!!" You squeaked, turning around and backing away from the massive Ice-type.

But then Volcarona flew in front of you, to your surprise, and attacked the Avalugg with Solar Beam, hitting the Iceberg Pokemon. It bellowed a cry before running away.

"Whew..that was a close one." You sighed, wiping the cold sweat from your forehead. Then you looked down at the egg you still had in your hands. "At least..you're safe. I don't know what would've happened if...." You trailed off, before turning around and looking up at Volcarona. "Ah...thank you, Volcarona."

The Sun Pokemon nodded, before it looked down at the egg you were cradling.

"Oh? Wanna know where I got this egg?" You asked. It nodded once more.

"Ah..some old couple that ran a Pokemon Daycare gave this to me," you explained, rubbing the smooth surface of the egg. "They don't know what it could be, and neither do I, but they wanted me to protect it from the cold and ensure that it always stays warm. I was leaving town when that unexpected snowstorm hit. I was going to build a fire in a nearby cave and wait till it passed but I guess that cave was that Avalugg's den and what are you doing....?"

Volcarona took the egg from your hands with its tiny, stubby feet, before it enveloped itself with its wings and closed its eyes. You tilted your head in confusion. Was it trying to warm up the egg for you?
After a few moments, Volcarona opened its eyes and looked at you, giving you back the egg. As you took it back, you were surprised that it wasn't incredibly hot, considering how you read that a Volcarona's wings can set fire to an entire village with just a flap.

Then again, it probably didn't want to turn the egg into a scrambled Pokemon.

You smiled up at the Sun Pokemon. "Thank you, for saving both my life and the life of this..Pokemon I don't--huh?"

Looking down at the egg, your eyes widened as it began to move, a tiny crack appearing on its shell. Volcarona inched closer to you, curious as to what is inside. After about a minute, the top half completely shattered, revealing it to be a....

"Larvesta? You mean...?" You paused, before getting out your Pokedex reader and holding it up to the strange Pokemon.

"Larvesta: the Torch Pokemon. Said to have been born from the sun, it spews fire from its horns and encases itself in a cocoon of fire when it evolves."

"Wait...you're saying this little bugger.." You looked back up at Volcarona. "...evolves into you?!" Volcarona nodded.

The Larvesta opened its eyes, first seeing you before turning its head and recognizing its evolved form. Volcarona blinked, lowering it head and nuzzling the top of the Torch Pokemon's head. Larvesta let out a cute little noise, nuzzling it right back.

"Awww~" You cooed softly, seeing the adorable exchange taking place.

But as you did so, it then dawned on you.

Did that old couple set you up?

Did they want you, a young trainer that had so much to learn about the world of Pokemon, to encounter a rare and beautiful Pokemon like Volcarona? Is that why they insisted you kept the egg warm?

It didn't seem to matter to you, though, for it was merely fate that you met Volcarona. It saved your life and you wanted to return the favor: By ensuring that its own kin was safe.

And you had a good feeling that the gentle giant trusted you.
