No Difference|Ultra Beasts x Reader

You hummed a tune as you walked down the street, looking around at the buildings and clouds. On your shoulder sat your Shiny Furret, Scarf, who was also marveled by the sights and sounds of Hau'oli City. Glancing over at the other side of the street, you saw a cart being pulled by a Tauros, children running down the sidewalk laughing, and a market where many tourists, like yourself, stopped by.

Seeing the fruits made your stomach growl a bit, but you were too shy to go over and talk to the sales lady. In general you were just shy around most people, though not so much around Pokemon. Sometimes you considered them to be better than your human friends.

Distracted by the sights, you didn't realize you accidentally bumped into someone.

"Ack! Hey watch it!"

"O-Oh! I-I'm sorry!" You squeaked in surprise, apologizing as your face flushed with embarrassment. Looking up, you saw that the person was wearing a black and white attire, with a hat and bandanna on that resembled a skull.

"Whateves'. I got places to be, pal." He grumbled, pushing past you rather roughly and hopping onto a motorcycle, before speeding off down the street.

'Well I wouldn't wanna meet him in a dark alley,' you sighed, feeling a bit relieved when he left. "Alright. That's enough social interaction for one day. How about we go find some Pokemon, Scarf?"

"Furret!" Scarf nodded, smiling. 

You returned the smile. "Sounds great-" But as you started walking, your foot hit something on the ground. Looking down, you found some strange-looking blue and gold device. It sure didn't look like a Pokeball...so what was it?

"Hmm.." You picked up the device, staring at it in thought, before you decided that you would find out what it was when you got home.

The noises of the city had finally faded as you came into a clearing in the forest. "Finally, some peace and quiet," you sighed, sitting down on a knocked-over tree stump as you pulled some Pokeballs out of your bag.

"Come on out Ruby and Dandy."

Your Ledian and Jumpluff appeared, letting out happy cries. Scarf yipped, jumping down from your shoulder to greet his friends. You giggled as you watched them run around and chase each other..

Though they stopped for a moment when they heard rustling in the nearby bushes. "Hmm..what's wro-"

Suddenly, a tree crashed to the ground, startling you and your Pokemon. They let out cries of fear and ran back to you, jumping into your lap. "Hey, hey..shhh.." You hushed, wrapping your arms around their shivering bodies. "It's alright. It was probably a Bewear causing troub-"

But when you looked up, you nearly screamed as you saw a large, red and black mosquito-like creature hovering before you, before it landed on the ground. Its muscular arms were pulsating as it folded them across its chest.

This thing looked like it could bench-press a Steelix!

Even though it didn't look like it wanted to harm you, you weren't going to take any chances. You immediately got up, grabbed your stuff, and ran for you life (and your Pokemon's lives, too).

For once you were glad to return to civilization.

Huffing and puffing, you didn't stop running. People looked at you as you ran past, but you didn't have a care in the world what they thought.

Once more, however, you ran into someone and fell to the ground, dropping your bag and spilling its contents all over the sidewalk.

"Ah! [Y-Y/n]?!"

You took a few moments to catch your breath. "So..Sorry..I was...whew..." But when you looked up, you realized it was your friend, [f/n]. 

"Jeez..you okay?" They asked, seeing that you were sweating and beet-red in the face. You nodded and went to collect your stuff. [F/n] knelt down to help you. "You sure?"

"Y-Yeah..I just...saw something in the woods."

[F/n] stared at you for a few moments, before they burst out into laughter. "Hah, hah! Did a Bewear get'cha? All it wants is hugs, you kn-"

"N-No! It wasn't that!" You exclaimed, zipping up your bag before putting it back on. "It was...something else..something that looked too...bizarre to be a real Pokemon."

At your statement, [F/n]'s eyes widened in horror. "You don't know?"

"Know what?"

"...l-let's talk about it at your place."

"Okaaay..."

"An Ultra what??"

"You heard me," [F/n] told you. "They're called Ultra Beasts. The Aether Foundation studies them. The one you supposedly saw is called "UB-02 Absorption".

"That doesn't make sense," you said, staring down at the drink you had in your hands, "there are creatures that aren't Pokemon out there?"

"They are Pokemon," [F/n] pointed out, "but they're so powerful that they're classified as something else entirely. The locals keep saying how dangerous they are and how they can hurt people and Pokemon if they wanted to."

You opened your mouth, about to agree when another thought crossed your mind: 'But..that Ultra Beast...UB-02 Absorption...didn't look like it wanted to hurt me or my Pokemon..'

"That one I saw didn't look like it wanted to hurt me," you replied. "I was just frightened by its appearance, that's all."

"Then you got lucky. Most of the time they won't hesitate to hurt someone," [F/n] muttered, before putting their hands on your shoulders. "[Y/n] just promise me that you won't go near them anymore. They are not to be trusted. You promise?"

"Okay, okay, I promise." You nodded. A smile of relief crossed their face as they let go. "Thank you...now how about we watch some T.V to get our minds off this whole thing?"

You smiled back lightly. "Sure, why not?" You grabbed the remote, switching the T.V on and flicking to different channels.

Until you stopped on the news channel when you saw what they were reporting:

"In other words, another Ultra Beast has been sighted wandering Melemele Island's forest area. It is identified by the Aether Foundation as UB-03 Lighting. Like all Ultra Beasts, UB-03 Lightning is dangerous and should not be approached under ANY circumstance...."

"Man...there's just more and more of them everyday," [F/n] muttered, shaking their head. But you didn't answer them, thinking back to the one you encountered.

For some reason, you didn't want to believe that they were a threat to humans and Pokemon.

"You gotta be kidding, right?!" [F/n]'s jaw dropped when you told them you wanted to go and look for the Ultra Beast. "They're dangerous to everyone!"

"But you said they were Pokemon," you argued, frowning slightly, "Palossand can suck the life out of small Pokemon but nobody says those are a threat!"

"Maybe but Ultra Beasts are capable of causing mass destruction! Their power is immeasurable compared to any other Pokemon's." Seeing your unwavering expression, [f/n]'s eyes softened a bit. "Seriously, [y/n]...why would you want to risk hurting yourself?"

"I just feel like..." You turned to the T.V, seeing a report about a giant, green, metallic Ultra Beast flying through the air. "....they're not just mindless, destructive creatures. They have feelings and are intelligent like us. Call me crazy but....I just can't see them as a threat to anyone."

[F/n] didn't say anything, but they only sighed and went to search for something in their bag. You raised an eyebrow, curious about what they are doing.

"Well...if they can be caught...these might help," they said, handing you a couple of the same Pokeball-looking device you found earlier. "I found a Team Skull grunt trying to smuggle some of these, but I stopped him. I think they're called Beast Balls, meant to capture only Ultra Beasts."

"Huh...so that's what they're called," you replied, taking the Beast Ball out of your pocket. "I found one of these earlier. It must've fallen out of that guy's pocket..I wonder what he was gonna do with them."

"Probably catch those Ultra Beasts and do some terrible things with them..but I trust you more, [y/n]. Maybe you can end their threat by catching and training them."

You smiled, nodding as you took the Beast Balls and put them in your bag. "Thank you. Maybe I should head out now and search for them while they're still being sighted."

"Good luck. Oh, and by the way..."

As you headed to the front door and opened it up, you looked back at [F/n].

"Please be careful."

"I will...I promise."

"Now..where is that Ultra Beast?" You muttered, returning to the spot where you first saw UB-02 Absorption.

"Furret?" Scarf asked, hopping off your shoulder and sniffing the ground for a scent. He frowned when there was none to be found. "Don't worry, Scarf..." You reassured him, patting his head. "We'll find him-"

"Xurrrrrrrt...."

"Eh?"

You turned around, confused as you saw a flash of black and white fly past you and dive into a bush. "Is..someone there? D-Don't worry..." You said, smiling nervously as you approached the bush. "I-I-I'm not gonna hurt-"

"XURRRT!!"

"WAAH!!" You yelped in surprise, falling back on your behind. With wide eyes you stared up in horror to see the same Ultra-Beast you saw on television a few days ago.

UB-03 Lightning. Its wire-like arms waved in the air, before the creature reached towards you with one, outstretched hand. Electric sparks danced on the tips of its copper fingers.

"O-Oh man..ohmanohmanohman.." You scooted away from the Ultra Beast, before you had an idea. "I-I know! I just gotta-!" But before you could reach into your bag, something white flew past your eyes and snatched it from you.

"Hey!" You shouted, only to recoil in fear as you saw another Ultra Beast hovering in the air. It was a small, origami-like creature. From the looks of those arms...you had a feeling that it could deliver more than just paper cut.

You stayed still, completely paralyzed as you saw more Ultra Beasts appear out of the woods: a white, beautiful roach; the steel, tower-looking one you saw on T.V; a white, glass jellyfish; a large, bulky black, yellow, and blue creature with a giant mouth; and, finally, UB-02 Absorption itself.

You held your breath as UB-02 Absorption approached you, before kneeling down. Then it did something that surprised you...

It reached its hand out to you.

You only stared at the mosquito-like creature. In that moment, the words of your friend and the news reporters all came back to you.

"They won't hesitate to hurt someone."
"They are not to be trusted."
"Their power is immeasurable."
"Should not be approached under ANY circumstance."

But you shook your head, still refusing to believe those words.

Slowly, you grasped UB-02's hand, squeaking in surprise as it pull you up quickly and suddenly. The force of the pull hurt your arm a bit, though you ignored it. Looking back up at the Ultra Beast, you gave it a smile. "Thank you."

"Buzzwole?" It tilted its head, before looking back at the others, who also seemed confused.

Were you not afraid of them?

"Buzzwole? So that's your real name, huh?" You mused, turning to the other Ultra Beasts. "And what about all of yours?"

None of them spoke or did anything for a few moments, but then the roach-looking creature walked up to you and said, "Pheromosa..."

"Pheromosa," you repeated, smiling. "That's a pretty name."

Eventually, you learned the rest of their names: Xurkitree, Celesteela, Guzzlord, Kartana, and Nihilego. It turned out that despite their appearances, they were, in fact, kind, gentle, and misunderstood creatures that acted like any other Pokemon. But you were upset to think that, instead, they were treated like objects and given code names simply because of the strength of their power.

But it made you wonder....if one could catch an Ultra Beast, couldn't they tame that power as well?

There was only one way for you to find out.

"Hey um...I know this sounds kind of brash," you began, "but...even though I don't see any of you as a threat...there's many others who still believe you are-"

You paused as the Ultra Beasts began to grumble. They weren't angry at your statement, but the fact that it was true.

"Wait lemme finish!" They became silent once more and listened to you.

"I can prove them wrong. If I can show them that you all can be great in both battle and friendship...then maybe they'll give you a chance." You smiled, looking at all of them hopefully.

The Ultra Beasts contemplated your offer, exchanging glances at each other, before Nihilego rose up and spoke telepathically to you: "So...what you're saying is that you want to prove to them that we're not evil by capturing us?"

"Um..w-well technically..yeah," you said, blushing a bit as you scratched the back of your head in embarrassment. "But I don't want you to get the wrong idea and think I'm just some greedy-"

"Oh no, no! We understand your intentions, young trainer," the jellyfish-like Pokemon stated calmly, floating over to you. "Thank you for offering us a chance at redemption but...as you meant to say before I interrupted..you're right. All Ultra Beasts cannot be tamed under your thumb alone."

"Nihilego's right," Buzzwole now spoke, "seein' how weak your other Pokemon are..you're not up to the task just yet, kid."

You frowned deeply. "Oh hush you buff mosquito-"

"But...since you came all this way to find us...we'll help you start your quest by lettin' ya pick one of us."

Your eyes widened in surprise as you looked at the other Ultra Beasts. "Wait. Are you serious? No battle or anything?"

"No one else has been nice to us but you," Xurkitree chimed in, "you deserve a break. And besides...I still feel bad for attacking you earlier."

"Don't worry," you said, smiling. "I forgive all of you. Now..." You looked up at Kartana, putting your hand out. "..if you would be so kind.."

The origami-like Ultra Beast nodded and flew over to you, giving you back your bag. Setting it in your lap, you pulled out a Beast Ball before you glanced up at the Ultra Beasts around you.

"Take your pick, trainer," Buzzwole encouraged, "you could use someone as strong as me~" It proudly puffed its chest out and flexed its arm muscles. "But hey...no pressure."

"Right", you nodded.
