"This is dumb..."

"What's dumb?"

"This whole...concept of "Trick-or Treatin'". So we just go to a random person's house and expect them to give us candy?"

"Only if their lights are on or if they have a bunch of Halloween decorations....like that one over there!"

A grin appeared on your face as you pointed to a house down the street. The yard was practically strewn with decorations and props that made it look like a graveyard. Not to mention you could see purple fog and faintly hear spooky sounds coming from that same place.

"That looks like a good place to start. Let's go." You began to walk, but you then stopped and glanced back to see that Anti was not moving. He looked rather hesitant, and you understood why.

It was your idea to take the demon out Trick-Or-Treating this Halloween. There was no particular reason why, you just wanted him to get the full-on "experience".

However, he refused to dress up as anything, insisting that he alone looked terrifying enough. You couldn't argue with that logic and decided to go with it. The only rules you had for him was that he didn't glitch or bring his knife...which he begrudgingly agreed to.

"C'mon, Anti, you're not scared, are you~?" You teased.

Anti gawked. "Wha-! No! It's just..there's a lot of little brats there.." He grumbled as his gaze returned to the house. "And I don't want 'em to see-"

"Anti, there's going to be little kids everywhere and they're gonna see you no matter what. And besides.." A slight frown appeared on your face. "It's not just kids, it's parents and teens and-"

"Alright, fine! Fine! Let's just get this over with.."

Your childlike grin from before returned as you grabbed his hand. "Sweet!"

Anti snorted, frowning as he yanked his hand out of yours, but he followed you to the house anyway.

As you both walked, he glanced around at the children dressed up as angels, witches, devils, superheroes, and skeletons...nothing too fancy caught his eyes until he stumbled across a group of teenagers.

And one of them was dressed up as....him?

The demon raised an eyebrow, stopping for a moment to take in their brown and green hair, pierced ears, black clothing, and the realistic bloody scar across their throat. Least to say he was a bit stunned that somebody would want to dress up as him of all things, but at the same time he was...flattered.

The teen briefly stopped as well to look over at Anti. Their eyes widened in shock, and, for a moment, he tensed up in fear they would find out he was the real deal, but then they simply smiled, showing off their obviously fake fangs, and gave him a thumbs up before running to catch up with their friends.

"Awh that's cute. Someone decided to dress up as you."

Anti blinked slowly, glancing back at you. "Yeah I guess." He shrugged. "Let's keep going. I feel weird just carryin' around this empty pillow case."
.....

"Sooo how do we do this again?"

"We walk up to the door. I'll knock. And when it opens we both say "Trick-Or-Treat"!" You explained as you both lingered by a tree, waiting for the little kids at the house to be done getting their candy.

It was a ridiculously simple concept, but Anti, on the other hand, stared at you like you were trying to explain quantum physics to him.

"It's that simple-?"

"Oh my God Anti, yes!" You huffed in annoyance.

Tonight was really gonna be a test of patience.

"So, if we're suppose to get treats, what's the "trick" then?" He asked you, tilting his head to the side, although seconds later a wide grin crept across his face. "Ohh...are ya saying we give them a nice little trick if they don't give us anything?" The demon snickered, raising his hand up as his knife appeared out of thin air. "Because I can-"

"Anti, we don't actually give them any tricks..that's just suppose to be an idle threat........and what did I say about no knives?!"

Anti glared at you. However moments later he sighed in defeat, his beloved weapon glitching away. "Fine..." His ears perked up at the sounds of laughter and he glanced over to see the children exiting the driveway, with their parents hustling them along.

"That's our cue." You told him, nudging his shoulder.

With a small nod, he followed you up the driveway. As you walked, Anti glanced towards the yard, a blank expression on his face as he gazed at the spooky decorations...none of which impressed him all that much.

'This crap is suppose to scare people?' He thought, barely even flinching as a motion-triggered spider animatronic jumped out at him. 'Lame..they oughta know someone who can give 'em a REAL scare, someone like-'

"You ready?"

The demon blinked, before he realized you were at the house's front door. "Oh..right, yeah. You go ahead then."

Smiling, you turned to the door and knocked a few times. It wasn't long before a middle-aged lady answered it, a pair of cat ears on her head and a large bowl of candy in her hands. "Oh! Why hello, there~!"

"Trick-or-Treat~!"
"T-Trick-or-Treat.."

The lady chuckled as she studied the two of you. "What lovely costumes you two have!" She complimented, although her smile faded. "But...don't you think you're a little too old to be Trick-or-Treating?"

At her question, Anti's eyebrows furrowed in both confusion and irritation. '"Too old"? The fuck does this bitch mean we're "too old"?!' His eye began to twitch as he gripped the pillow case in his hand even tighter. 'I swear if there weren't any of those snot-faced brats around I would-'

"We're um...Trick-or-Treating for our kids."

Immediately Anti's infuriated expression went away, being replaced with a baffled one as he stared at you. But you gave him a side-eyed glance, a silent message saying that he should go along with it.

So he closed his mouth and looked back at the woman. "Erm..yeah..that's it...they're uh..awfully sick. Couldn't even get outta bed today, ya know?" He muttered, ensuring his voice was quiet and not layered.

'This is stupid. No way in hell is she gonna fall for something like tha-'

"Oh, poor things," the lady cooed sadly, before she put down the bowl and went to grab another smaller one. But it was filled with full-sized candy bars.

"Here, take some of these back to them," she said as she put one in each of your pillow cases. "It's awful they had to miss out on Trick-or-Treating this year, but..it's nice to see you two willing to go out for them."

Anti's eyes widened in shock, although he regained his composure and nodded. "Yep..the things we..do for 'em.."

"Well thank you so much, ma'am," you smiled sweetly at the lady. "This really means a lot to us and to them."

"Not a problem, I hope they feel better. You two have a goodnight."

You nodded and linked arms with Anti as you both walked away from the house. Once you were out on the streets, you let go. "Thanks for going along with that Anti. I....do feel kinda bad for lying but-"

"Are you kiddin' me?! We just got a full-sized candy bar...for free!"

As you turned to face him, you blinked several times, surprised to see that the demon was practically bouncing as he took out the candy and stared at it. "Man..I take everythin' I said about Trick-or-Treating." His blue eyes were shimmering with happiness as he laughed. "This is fuckin' awesome!"

But when he glanced up at you, his smile faded and his ears turned slightly pink with embarrassment. "I..I mean..uh..." He coughed nervously, putting the bar back inside the pillow case. "This whole tradition is..kinda cool....l-let's just keep going."

"Hey, it's alright be excited, Anti," you chuckled, patting him on the shoulder. "This is your first time Trick-or-Treating, after all. No need to feel shy about it."

At your words, he did relax a little bit. "Thanks, [y/n]. I...owe ya one for takin' me out to experience this." His smile returned.

"You're welcome, but we're not done yet! We still have a lot of houses to get to."

"Oh..that's true." He muttered in response. "Alright then..show me the way."

And with that, you and Anti set off into the night, on the hunt for some more delicious treats to take home and eat to your heart and stomach's content.

Least to say, you'll definitely do this again next year.
